Patience and Persistence
In January, the inauguration of President Barack Obama made history before it happened. From the steps of the Capitol and far beyond the eye could see men, women and children from the very young to the very old huddled close in the bitter January cold. Perched atop a cozy sofa, my two-week old grandson snuggled against my chest, I watched as cameras scanned the millions of people who made personal pilgrimages to witness this historic and momentous event. From my bird’s-eye view there was something very familiar about the mass of strangers standing shoulder to shoulder. One word defines it – unity. More than two million people gathered in peace, citizen patriots ready to serve their country. They were hopeful in spirit and, once again, in trust. And their hearts and faces carried a single message to our new President, “Lead us, we are ready to follow.” How very special it is to live in these United States of America.
No one expected a miracle on January 21st, 2009, they expected change, and change takes time. We have a long road ahead as a nation and as a world and keeping the faith will be monumental to the accomplishment. We must continue to stand together as we did on inauguration day. When people work in harmony, great things can happen. This video sends the message beautifully. If you’ve seen it before, I know it will touch you again.
