This evening I left a comment in response to a question on the Future of Aging web site blog. An adult child was commenting on the pain of watching a mother become frail and incapacitated. I thought of your "Stepping Stones." Not only are our children on stepping stones into the unknown when we send them off to college or out into the world but so are we and our parents on stepping stones as we find ourselves suddenly thrust into the position of caregiver to elderly frail parents. Often unfamiliar territory and not always friendly. Still, a journey worth taking. one step at a time.

One step at a time. At 18, they want to take them all at once. Leaving home is a very big step. I remember the days when each of my children left home for the first time. As you said, conflicting feelings. They made it through and so did I. Thanks for sharing your insight.
